Michael Van Arragon, Dip, GradCert
Michael first heard about Body Brave as he was searching to engage with other people in recovery as part of his journey in sustaining his own recovery from Bulimia. Michael notes an immediate affinity with the programming and spirit of Body Brave entering the group meeting room for the first time.
As a person in long-term recovery, Michael understands the importance of shaping up community around a shared desire for healthy and purposeful living. Michael will tell you that his eating disorder was a result of minimal self-compassion and a sense of meaninglessness and that this nearly killed him, causing him over a decade of frustration, heartache and poor health.
Today, Michael is growing into the person he wishes to be; learning to find purpose in serving his community as an addictions counsellor and volunteer, living in mindfulness and sobriety with curiosity and intensity. Michael currently works in long-term residential treatment for men experiencing addictions and hopes to carry on with this type of work for the rest of his life. Michael holds a social service work diploma and a graduate's certificate for the treatment of concurrent disorders from Mohawk College.
